Chicken Buses | Blogger | 12.06.06 | Blog
On Monday morning I packed up my things and left the comforts of Don Ismael. I was headed to Lago Atitlan, a ginormous lake surrounded by volcanoes in the highlands. I had decided that rather than book the $10 shuttle bus ride directly there, I would experience the local way and take the chicken bus. So with my big pack, I jumped on the first bus. It seemed fine. I put my pack upon the rack above my head and took a seat. As we went around town, the bus got more and more full but still, I was the only gringo. We set out on the highway, packed to the gills and still I was the only gringo... Read Full Story | karlitoburrito.blogspot.com

We are writing from San Andrés, Guatemala, a small town on Lake Peten Itzá. We have been here for two weeks studying Spanish and learning about the culture, traditions, and present day issues of this lovely community. Our time here has coincided with an annual festival to celebrate the patron Saint of the town, Saint Andrew (San Andres). We have had the pleasure of being woken up at 4am every morning by a tremendous bang of firecrackers signaling the beginning of the day´s prayers. The whole town seems to be enjoying this time of praying and partying... Read Full Story | richyangtravels.blogspot.com

Atitlan Resouce is the official resource site for Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Yesterday...was such a lovely day...How sweet it was--
A Day in San Jose (not Costa Rica nor California)
Began the day eating way too many carbs. ZZZZZZZzzzzzz. But after two naps, I was ready for my appointment to tour San Jose and San Andres, two towns about 35 kidney-shaking minutes down the road from La Lancha (Coopola's resort).
My driver, happy on the way to Tikal, but distressed on this day, was more than happy to show me around his neck of the woods, San Jose, Guatamala, no movie theaters, but gorgeous lake-side views among brilliant tropical color--greens of palms, blues of the lakes, and multiple colors of the architecture... San Cristobal and the Guatemala | Live Spaces | 12.06.06 | Blog
As I had been told, I ended up spending far more time in San Cristobal than I planned (1 week). However, it is a great town, although it is freezing. I generally walked around with 4 layers of clothes, and at night this increased to include gloves, a beanie, and often a blanket wrapped around me.
The trip down the river through the canyon was great, and we had perfect weather as well.
Guatemala
Janine and I ended up going to Guatemala together. I love Guatemala. It has much more in common with South America, which in my eyes is a good thing. The border crossing was easy, and I didn´t sign out of Mexico which saved me about US$20.... Read Full Story | zaarin.spaces.live.com
